Lor Hui Yun’s interest in film began when she took a module in Television Advertisement Filming and Directing during her course of studies at Singapore Polytechnic in 2010. In 2011, she co-directed Reminisces, a documentary about the closure of Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, before joining The Puttnam School of Film. She illustrates effectively through her works a strong engagement and understanding of society as well as a sense of nostalgia. This is evident in her student portfolio films such as By The Silver Wind, a story of personal loss; The Missing Wave, a documentary film about the Sook Ching Massacre in 1943. Her thesis documentary film, Hiraeth, deals with the children of former Gurkha police and their experience moving away from the familiar environments they had grown up in.
Outside of school, Hui Yun is an avid photographer. She has a broad range of experience through volunteering her photography services for numerous associations in China and Indonesia.
