Tomoko Tsuruta was born in Tokyo, Japan and was raised in the United States, Singapore, and Japan. She received her B.A in Political Science from Sophia University (Japan). She later received her B.A (Hons) in Fine Arts at LASALLE College of the Arts, majoring in Painting.
Tomoko explores the themes of visual perception, body, time and landscape, with the aim of fusing both Eastern and Western into her art making. She explores the traditional medium of ink and various types of paper, combined with colour. She has been training Chinese ink under Lim Choon Jin since 2013. Her work consists of various Chinese ink techniques such as the wet and dry method and layering, creating depth and space. The biomorphic forms are inspired from nature. She currently lives and works in Singapore.
