Dominic Tong (b. 1989) is a multidisciplinary art practitioner based in Singapore. Having graduated with a Diploma in Film, Sound and Video from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in 2009, Dominic works predominantly with video and performance, and is currently pursuing his BA in Fine Arts at LASALLE College of the Arts.
His work is concerned with the relationship between macrocosms and microcosms, and how man embodies both within and out. By focusing on how the body interacts directly with materials as well as the environment, Dominic hopes to not only understand the materiality of the two but also that of his own body.
Background Image depicts the relationship between the body and the environment. The environment nurtures the body, molding identities with environmental change and fluxes. The work seeks to justify the body as an entitiy on its own, separate from the envrionment it inhabits.
As each piece of tape is ripped from the body, the body starts to take form. The action is violent but the body remains still, suggesting a comfort in confrontation of the body and the environment.
