Grey Projects, Singapore
As an intern, I assisted primarily in two areas: residency and publications. As publications intern, I worked on proofreading art writing, and copywriting for the company website and social media platforms. As residency coordinator, I helped resident artists accustom themselves to the neighbourhood and Singapore, and organised and facilitated their activities within the community of Tiong Bahru. I carried out administrative work such as the general maintenance of the exhibition spaces and studio, replacing equipment where necessary, attending to visitors, assisting in the setting up of art works before exhibitions, and liaising with external parties.
Looking Glass Productions, i-AM 2013 Festival, LASALLE
Worked together with a group of fellow Arts Management classmates to produce an interactive theatre show on body perception issues among youth, entitled i'm(perfect), for the i-AM 2013 Festival which is conceptualised and organised by the School of Arts Management at LASALLE College of the Arts.
Forum Theatre: A Journey
This thesis explores the journey of Augusto Boal's forum theatre from its origins in Brazil to its various adaptations in Singapore. It follows its growth in Singapore, from being a form that was frowned upon and largely disapproved of by the state, to regaining acceptance around the early 2000’s once the state decided to liberalise, and the current situation which appears to be that an increasing number of groups and practitioners seem to be using forum theatre or at least its “open-ended” form to various ends. I want to explore the uses of forum theatre in Singapore, whether its original meaning gets skewed when it is appropriated for purposes other than the empowerment of the oppressed, and possibilities for its future.
