As a child, Cai Peixuan (b. 1990, Singapore) spent afternoons covering paper, the kitchen floor and herself with paint. She has since graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts with a BA (Hons) in Fine Arts.
Peixuan makes art to celebrate the flaws of humanness and to bring the whimsical into everyday humdrum. Elements of daily life commonly feature in her work. She indulges in flights of fancy that imbue toothbrushes and lampshades with foolish human aspirations. She finds that mundane objects help to ground larger emotional or psychological issues.
Peixuan has always relished the catharsis of technically rigorous work; her art is rooted in technique and realistic drawing. However, recent pursuits have delved as well into a wider range of media, including found object, sound art and photography.
